Photo 1 - Bike Racks
I chose this photo for multiple reasons. The first of which would be it's sense of positive and negative space. The design of the bike racks leaves pockets of negative space, so does the sidewalk itself. Meanwhile, the repetition of the bike racks in the foreground, middle ground, and background, give the photo a sense of pattern and rhythm. The unfocused bike racks in the back give the photo a shallow depth of field. In addition to being in black and white, the photo has proper exposure. Lastly, I chose this photo because the subject matter is interesting although it's simple. The bike racks aren't recognizable as bike racks, they look more like sculptures on the sidewalk.
Photo 2 - Cowboys & Indians
I chose this photo because it has good depth. The depth is very shallow, but the indians in the front of the picture and the cowboy in the back give the photo a foreground and background. This photo is in black and white, but also properly exposed. The Indian's horses aren't washed out, however they give the photo a nice range of color. I also like the point of the view this picture was taken from because it's like the viewer is in the battle. I liked photographing this subject matter because the figures were really small, however they look large in this picture. I got to set the figures up how I wanted, giving the photo a different look every time.
Photo 3 - School Columns
I chose this photo because it has a good range of value and it is properly exposed even thought it is in black and white. This photo also has a lot of leading lies throughout it. The point of view is also interesting because although this column is very tall, the viewer is also eye level with the column. Although I was far away from the subject, it seems like the viewer is close because of the zoom. This photo was also taken in the mid-afternoon, so the sun created light that gave the photo interesting shadows and highlights.
