Today I began my trophy. I started by free hand drawing the top half and bottom half of a tennis racket on two separate pieces of wood. I cut them out on the band saw and glued them. Tomorrow I will sand them more and begin the tennis ball.

Today I came in halfway through the class because I had an orthodontist appointment. I didn't think this was enough time to start my project so I helped my friend, Mariah. She is also doing the trophy project. I helped her by cutting little bits of steel that were needed. Today Mr. Ramos sat down the remaining class and made us think. We drew 4 boxes and placed two of our favorite sports in box 1& 2. I picked tennis and baseball. Then in box 3 & 4 I designed a trophy for tennis and baseball. In boxes 5 & 6, we picked two of our favorite subjects. I picked History and Science. In boxes 7&8 I designed trophies for each subject. With Mr. Ramos' approval, we started designing the trophy of our choice. Today my design team and I decided we weren't going to test the bridge again. We tested it once and it held 382 pounds. Most bridges held up to 1000 pounds after the second test. We believed our bridge could not hold this. Today Mr. Ramos left for a field trip. He is going on a wind turbine your in Boston with 25 students. The tour is only an hour long but the students will come back after school ends. The students remaining will just read the engineering book. Today, Mr. Ramos approved my design partner and my super clamp design. There are three spots left in the super clamp competition. The winner will recieve $100. Whoever finishes first will recieve one of the three spots. Today Mr. Ramos showed us this giant fan. It will be used to test projects such as the wind turbine. In the picture a student is shown putting his wind turbine in front of it. We have yet to test the wind turbines. Today a student got put on the red mat for a rule violation. Mr. Ramos gave him the choice to remake my musical instrument successfully in order to not get points taken from his academic bank account. We accepted the challenge. The student made various calls but none worked. It was a failure. Today I completed my musical instrument. It was a deer call. To test it, Mr. Ramos had me stand various places in the room and play it. This is was so he would be able to hear it or not. It was successful. Today a group tested their bridge again for a chance to win. Their bridge previously held 733 lbs. Today it held 895 lbs until a student who weighed 230 lbs tried to join in. The bridge snapped, leaving their total at 895 lbs. |
